Join us for a workday at the historic Hazen Bridge. We will mostly work on the grounds, cleaning and clearing. We will also attempt to improve the canoe launch point at the river. Some tools will be available for all, but please bring your own tools if you prefer.

Sangamon River Float Trip: Riverwood to Sangamon Greenway

Riverwood 564A CR 2400 N, Dewey, Illinoia

Join us for a free Level 2 Intermediate skill float trip on the Sangamon River! We’ll start at Riverwood north and east of Mahomet, pass through Lake of the Woods and go on to the Sangamon Greenway, where IL 47 crosses the Sangamon south of Mahomet – parking lot on the Northeast corner of the bridge. Meet up 9:00 am at Riverwood unless you wish to park at the Greenway (the endpoint). You can drop your vehicle at the endpoint by 8:15 and catch the shuttle up to the starting point at Riverwood. Annual Sangamon River Cleanup and Picnic

Riverbend Forest Preserve 1602 MidAmerica Road, Mahomet, Illinois, United States

Join us for our Annual Cleanup on the Sangamon River. Meet up at Riverbend Forest Preserve We’ll be cleaning up an area from the Sangamon Greenway to Riverbend Forest Preserve We’ll meetup first and shuttle our group or groups upriver to their cleanup section. Transportation will be provided on an as-available basis and there will be a picnic lunch afterward with food provided by the USRC for all volunteers. Cleanup portion should end between 1 and 2pm. Arrive at Riverbend Forest Preserve by 8:45. Please sign up here!

Sangamon Watershed Celebration – November 10, 2018

Richland Community College-Shilling Center Decatur, Illinois

The Agricultural Watershed Institute and the new Sangamon River Alliance are pleased to invite you to the ‘New and Improved’ Sangamon Watershed Celebration! The 2018 Sangamon Watershed Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 10, at the National Sequestration Education Center building on the campus of Richland Community College in Decatur, Illinois. The day will be packed with a variety of enjoyable, educational and community-building activities and speakers. 9 AM – 12 PM: Family-oriented displays and activities 12 – 1 PM: Lunch available for purchase 1 – 5 PM: Concurrent sessions on topics related to local history, recreation, and environmental stewardship 5 – 7:30 PM: Dinner ($15 per person payable online or at the door) followed by a presentation and discussion of the documentary film “The Sangamon River: A Sense of Place” led by UIS Professor Emeritus Charles Schweighauser. 2nd Annual Mudpuppy Festival

2nd Annual Mudpuppy Festival scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 1-4 pm at the Monarch Brewing Company in Monticello. Mudpuppies are a threatened species of salamander that sound like a puppy barking when on land. And, we have them right here in Monticello in the Sangamon River! Land Conservation Foundation’s Stewardship Saturdays

Sangamon River Corridor Preserve 802 Allerton Rd, Monticello, Illinois

Join the Land Conservation Foundation's Stewardship Saturdays at its Sangamon River Corridor Reserve near Monticello. Meet at the Sangamon River Corridor Reserve on Allerton Road, just west of the Monticello Golf Club, from 9:00-11:00 am. Interested volunteers need only bring a pair of work gloves and their drinking water or snacks, if desired.  LCF will have any tools if necessary.
